In response to the catastrophic earthquake that struck northern Venezuela, India has initiated Operation Amistad, dispatching a highly trained medical contingent from its Army to provide urgent relief and emergency healthcare in the impacted area.
On 26 June 2026, a 41-member medical team from the 60 Para Field Hospital embarked on the mission, traveling via two Indian Air Force aircraft. The team comprises nine medical officers, along with specialized personnel skilled in disaster response and emergency medical operations.
Equipped to deliver a range of medical services—including emergency medical care, trauma management, surgical interventions, and critical care—the team is also transporting nearly six tonnes of medical supplies and humanitarian aid. This effort underscores India’s commitment to swift international disaster relief initiatives.
A standout feature of this mission is the deployment of the BHISHM Cube, an innovative modular field hospital developed under India’s Aarogya Maitri Project. This facility can be rapidly set up during emergencies and is designed to provide advanced trauma care, perform emergency surgeries, and support intensive care for up to 200 patients, thus significantly enhancing the capabilities for disaster response.
