Following the catastrophic earthquake that struck Myanmar on 28 March 2025, the Government of India has initiated ‘Operation Brahma’ to deliver urgent and essential humanitarian assistance to those impacted by the disaster. This comprehensive mission sees the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) collaborating closely with the Indian Army and Indian Navy to organize a substantial deployment of medical teams and resources aimed at offering lifesaving care and support to the affected populations.
In a strategic move, the Army Medical Corps (AMC)—renowned for its efficient disaster response—has dispatched multiple medical teams from key field hospitals, including the 60 PARA Field Hospital and the 433 Field Hospital. The contingent includes 216 highly trained medical professionals, encompassing surgeons, anesthetists, physicians, and paramedics. These teams are equipped to deliver specialized medical care in the wake of the earthquake, addressing critical needs such as life-and-limb-saving surgeries and advanced trauma care under challenging conditions. Their readiness demonstrates a commitment to rapid response and the provision of high-quality medical intervention in affected areas.
In a parallel effort, the Indian Navy has bolstered the humanitarian mission by sending two ships from its Eastern Fleet, each laden with five Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Medical Bricks, meticulously prepared by AFMS. These medical bricks are integral to the mission, containing vital medical supplies, emergency surgical kits, and life-saving equipment necessary for immediate care in the disaster zones. This naval deployment ensures that critical medical aid can reach not only coastal areas but also inland regions, further solidifying India’s dedication to support its neighbors during crises.
The AFMS, known for its unwavering commitment to humanitarian aid during emergencies, has exemplified its readiness to provide critical healthcare services beyond its national borders. Drawing from extensive experience in disaster response and humanitarian missions, the AFMS has pledged to alleviate suffering and aid recovery efforts wherever needed.
