In a significant move to enhance its operational readiness, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct a comprehensive multi-day aerial exercise in Rajasthan from July 23 to 25. This exercise will cover key border districts, including Barmer and Jodhpur, and has prompted the issuance of a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to ensure the clearance of civilian air traffic in the affected areas during this period.
Defence officials have announced that the drill will feature extensive air combat scenarios, including night operations, as part of the IAF’s regular assessment of its operational capabilities. The exercise is expected to involve aircraft and resources from various Air Force commands, demonstrating a robust commitment to maintaining readiness.
Frontline fighter jets such as the Rafale, Mirage 2000, and Sukhoi-30 will play a pivotal role, supported by advanced air defence systems, early warning platforms, and ground support units. The focus will be on executing high-speed manoeuvres, coordinated air strikes, and developing real-time responses to potential aerial threats.
This large-scale exercise comes against a backdrop of heightened alertness along the India-Pakistan border. The IAF has ramped up surveillance and strategic deployments in recent months due to evolving cross-border threats. Notably, Operation Sindoor in May 2025 revealed significant security challenges, as the region experienced multiple Pakistani drone and missile incursions. A total of 413 drone attacks targeted various locations in Rajasthan, including Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Sri Ganganagar, all of which were successfully intercepted by India’s integrated air defence network, averting potential damage.
Amid ongoing tensions along the western frontier, the forthcoming exercise serves not only as a means to reinforce preparedness but also as a test of combat efficiency. It aims to further sharpen India’s response capabilities in anticipation of any future provocations, emphasizing the IAF’s commitment to safeguarding national security.
