Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), has extended her congratulations to the 60 Parachute Field Hospital for their notable humanitarian efforts during Operation Sagar Bandhu in Sri Lanka. This operation took place in Mahiyanganaya from December 2 to 12, 2025, following significant devastation caused by a severe cyclone.
The Indian Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) deployed an 85-member medical team to assist in the relief efforts, managing to provide timely and comprehensive care under difficult field conditions. Over the course of their mission, the team delivered medical, surgical, and dental services to more than 7,000 civilians, addressing a wide range of injuries, illnesses, and public health issues that emerged in the wake of the disaster.
The rapid and effective response of the medical team, along with their professional expertise and compassionate care, played a critical role in alleviating human suffering in the cyclone-affected areas. Their efforts were formally acknowledged by the Sri Lanka Army, which commended the unit for its high standards of professionalism, operational readiness, and humanitarian approach.
In her commendation, Surgeon Vice Admiral Sarin emphasized that the mission embodied the core values of the Armed Forces Medical Services, stating, “always trained, always ready, and always humane.” She also pointed out that such operations underscore India’s ongoing commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the region.
The successful execution of Operation Sagar Bandhu not only rendered vital support to those in need but also enhanced defense cooperation and goodwill between India and Sri Lanka. This incident highlights the Indian Armed Forces’ capability to respond effectively to regional humanitarian crises.
