The Indian Army’s Southern Command recently marked the 78th Army Day with a heartfelt ceremony dedicated to honoring the sacrifices made by brave soldiers throughout history. The event was led by Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, who was joined by officers and soldiers from the command.
During the solemn occasion, Lt Gen Seth paid tribute to the fallen heroes, emphasizing the army’s core values of honor, duty, and sacrifice. The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the courage and devotion demonstrated by generations of Indian soldiers, inspiring current and future members of the military to maintain their steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and integrity.
In a notable segment of the observances, five distinguished veterans were awarded the Veteran Achievers Awards. This recognition celebrated their exceptional contributions beyond their military service. These awardees were acknowledged for their dedicated efforts in various areas, such as providing guidance on pension and welfare benefits, facilitating job opportunities for Veer Naris (widows of soldiers) and Veer Matas (mothers of soldiers), and offering ongoing support to fellow veterans throughout the region.
The awards not only highlight the Indian Army’s lasting respect for its veterans but also reinforce the notion that service to the nation extends well beyond active duty. The Southern Command’s commemoration echoed a commitment to honoring the past, while simultaneously inspiring future generations to uphold the Army’s enduring values, drawing strength from the sacrifices that both soldiers and veterans have made for the country.
