In a significant development, the Indian Army’s Surya Command, operating under the Golden Key Division, has successfully executed an intensive Combat Communication Training Camp in the high-altitude region of the Himachal Sector. The initiative, solely led by the Golden Key Signallers, was primarily aimed at establishing integrated, secure, and reliable communication networks amidst challenging snowy terrains—an essential capability in contemporary military operations.
The training camp underscored the incorporation of new-generation communication equipment alongside modified Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs). This innovative approach is designed to deploy dynamic and adaptive communication networks, aligning with the Indian Army’s strategic initiative entitled the “Year of Tech Absorption” in 2024. The overarching goal is to enhance operational readiness by leveraging cutting-edge technology while ensuring a strategic advantage in the face of evolving warfare scenarios.
Major General Naveen Mahajan, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Golden Key Division, took part in reviewing the training. He praised the troops for their motivation, offensive spirit, and professionalism, stressing the critical role of preparedness and precision in achieving seamless communication—a fundamental element of military success. This exercise reinforced the division’s commitment to operational excellence and readiness, particularly in high-altitude environments where challenges are more pronounced.
The training was significantly enhanced by the Corps of Signals, which has been responsible for military communications since its establishment on February 15, 1911. Known by its motto “Teevra Chaukas” (Swift and Secure), the Corps has evolved remarkably over the years, transitioning from rudimentary methods such as signal flags and telegraphs to sophisticated satellite communications and electronic warfare capabilities. Troops at the camp were well-trained in managing complex communication systems, having refined their skills at premier institutions, including the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE) and Signal Training Centres (STCs), and were able to demonstrate their expertise under the demanding conditions of snow-covered mountainous terrain.
