Lieutenant General CG Muralidharan, the Director General of Medical Services (Army), has officially inaugurated the Department of Hospital Administration at Army Hospital (R & R), marking a pivotal advance in the Indian Army’s healthcare management system. The inauguration ceremony, held on October 11, 2025, was attended by senior medical officers, administrative personnel, and other distinguished guests, underscoring the significance of integrated medical administration in promoting the health and well-being of Armed Forces personnel.
The newly established department aims to enhance hospital operations by overseeing and coordinating various administrative tasks. This includes administrative planning, patient care management, resource allocation, and logistical support. By centralizing these processes, the department is set to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of medical services to both active duty soldiers and their families. This initiative seeks to minimize delays in care, improve treatment outcomes, and elevate overall patient satisfaction.
During his address, Lt Gen Muralidharan highlighted that the establishment of the department is not a standalone effort but a component of a broader strategy aimed at modernizing military healthcare infrastructures. He emphasized the importance of integrating technological solutions in hospital management and adopting best practices from civilian healthcare systems. Streamlined administration, according to Lt Gen Muralidharan, is essential not only for enhancing healthcare delivery but also for sustaining the operational readiness of the Armed Forces, as healthy personnel are foundational to military efficacy.
In addition to improving administrative functions, the department will also focus on training and capacity building for hospital administrators and medical staff. It plans to introduce structured protocols for emergency responses, patient data management, and inter-departmental coordination. Furthermore, the department is envisioned as a center for implementing quality assurance measures and audit mechanisms, ensuring that high standards of care are consistently upheld across all Army medical services.
This initiative reflects the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to the health, morale, and operational efficiency of its personnel. By merging clinical expertise with robust administrative capabilities, the Department of Hospital Administration is poised to transform Army Hospital (R & R) into a benchmark institution for military healthcare management, ensuring that service members and their families receive timely and effective medical care of the highest standard.
