The Mahindra Light Specialist and the All-Terrain Vehicle have been added to the fleet of special vehicles used by the Indian armed forces. The unique vehicles were created and developed by Mahindra Defence Systems Limited, a supplier of armoured systems to the armed forces and paramilitary organisations and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra.
Even the president of Mahindra Aerospace & Defence, Vinod Sahay, used Twitter to upload pictures of these armoured cars, disclosing that Mahindra Defence had created and produced the Armoured Light Specialist Vehicle (ALSV) for our armed services. Following the signing of a deal in 2021 for the supply of 1,300 light specialised vehicles to the Indian army at a cost of Rs 1,056 crore, the Ministry of Defence contracted with Mahindra Defence Systems Ltd.

The Mahindra Light Specialist Vehicle is outfitted with protection and combat-ready gear and is designed specifically for navigating rough terrain. These speciality automobiles have four seats, a 1,600 kg cargo capacity, an 80-gallon fuel tank, and a top speed of 120 kmph. Additionally equipped with ballistic protection, these vehicles can withstand 7.62 mm shots.
These vehicles are equipped with anti-tank guided missiles and automated grenade launchers. When necessary, they can be used as troop carriers to move equipment, ammunition, and quick response teams. A 3.2-litre multi-fuel diesel engine with a 4×4 drivetrain with front and rear differential locking powers the Mahindra armoured vehicle, producing 212 horsepower.

Mahindra All Terrain Vehicle
The all-terrain vehicle has a cargo volume of 226.8 litres and a 318mm ground clearance. In all terrains, they can carry a weight of up to 680.4 kilogrammes. An 875cc, 4-stroke, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine drives the vehicle. This vehicle can also transport small teams and quick reaction teams in addition to hauling supplies, ammo, and replenishment.
The Indian army ordered 1,850 of the Mahindra Scorpio Classic SUVs in July of this year. The Maruti Gipsy, Tata Safari Storme (GS800), Mahindra Scorpio, Tata Xenon pickup, and the recently introduced Toyota Hilux pickup are just a few of the several 4×4 vehicles that the Indian Army now owns.
