An Indian Army soldier has tragically lost his life during an intense gunfight with terrorists in the Doda-Udhampur area of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces are currently engaged in a significant military operation, with reports indicating that three to four terrorists from the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group are believed to be trapped in the area.
The operation, initially reported from Kishtwar, has been confirmed by the Army to be taking place at the Dudu-Basantgarh heights along the Doda-Udhampur axis. The White Knights Corps communicated updates via X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Contact with terrorists. Update | Contact site of the ongoing operation is Doda-Udhampur border. Operation continues.”
This joint operation involves not only the Army but also the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, activated based on specific intelligence inputs regarding terrorist presence in the region. In the initial exchange of fire, one soldier sustained serious gunshot wounds and unfortunately later succumbed while being treated at a military hospital.
This incident adds to a series of recent encounters in the region, marking an ongoing challenge in counter-terrorism efforts. Notably, on June 26, 2025, security forces successfully eliminated Haider, a high-ranking JeM commander who had been operating in the Dudu-Basantgarh forests for over four years. Additionally, another soldier was killed in April during a similar operation in the same sector, highlighting the enduring risks faced by security forces in combating terrorism.
In a parallel effort, the J&K Police’s Counter-Intelligence Unit has been actively conducting thorough searches across seven districts—Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Kupwara, Handwara, Pulwama, and Shopian. These searches have reportedly yielded digital devices and documents that may be linked to ongoing terrorist activities in the region.
As the situation at the Doda-Udhampur border unfolds, security forces are reportedly tightening the cordon to neutralize the trapped militants, signifying the persistent volatility in the area and underscoring the ongoing conflict between Indian security forces and terrorist groups operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
