Infiltration Attempt by Terrorist

A quadcopter was flown by the Pakistan Army to provide cover to some infiltrators. While attempting to cross the LoC, a gang of armed terrorists engaged in an exchange of fire with vigilant forces, resulting in a failed effort to intrude into the Kashmir valley. A Pakistani army drone flying to aid terrorists was also detected across the Line of Control. The quadcopter was shot at, causing it to land.

This desperate act by terrorists, aided by the Pakistani army, is yet another failed attempt to disrupt the G20 meeting and cause disruption in the Valley. In the densely forested area, extensive search operations are underway. In the previous two weeks, the Indian Army and J&K Police have killed five militants in north Kashmir, including two infiltrators, in joint operations.

On May 6, a Lashkar-e-Taiba fighter from Kulgam was killed in an encounter in the north Kashmir region of Baramulla. On May 4, two militants from south Kashmir were killed in a confrontation with security forces in Baramulla’s Kreeri district. Both of the dead militants were from the Shopian district of south Kashmir. In March, they joined the militant ranks.

On May 3, two infiltrators were also killed along the LoC in Kupwara’s border area of Machil sector. Amod Nagpore, senior superintendent of police (SSP) in Baramulla, recently told journalists that due to increased security in preparation for the G20 conference, the forces received various information that resulted in the deaths of three militants in north Kashmir.

Officials have been convening back-to-back meetings to ensure a safe and secure atmosphere during the G20 meeting to be held in Srinagar. The police and army have increased operations in north Kashmir ahead of the G20 tourism working group summit, which will be held in Srinagar from May 22 to 24.
