The 3/5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force) team clinched a gold medal for the Indian Army at the Cambrian Patrol Competition 2023, an International Military Exercise hosted in Wales, UK.
The Cambrian Patrol Exercise, heralded by the UK Army, is often dubbed the ‘Olympics of Military Patrolling.’ Emphasizing its rigorous nature, it’s a testament to a team’s endurance and camaraderie, as acknowledged by a Defence Ministry statement.
The 2023 exercise saw a participation of 111 teams, encompassing 38 international contingents. These teams were challenged to traverse a strenuous 60 km terrain in under 48 hours, navigating through the treacherous mountains and swamps of Wales, all while executing tactical tasks.
The achievement of the 3/5 Gurkha Rifles (FF) was highlighted by the Indian Army, who stated that the exercise showcased a blend of raw endurance with tactical acumen.
Reflecting on past glories, in 2021, the Indian Army had previously secured a gold medal in the same competition. Back then, they were pitted against 96 other teams, including 17 international ones representing elite Special Forces and renowned regiments globally.
That year, the 4/5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force) proudly waved the Indian flag at the Cambrian Patrol Exercise in Brecon, Wales, UK.
Ye gold medal 🏅 jeet गए.
