The Vajra Corps of the Indian Army recently hosted a significant Ex-Servicemen Rally and Weapon Display in Hoshiarpur, showcasing the Army’s dedication to its veterans and the youth of the nation. Lieutenant General Ajay Chandpuria, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Vajra Corps, took the opportunity to engage with National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets and instructional staff from the Jalandhar Group, reinforcing the theme of the event: ‘Veeron Ka Samman, Desh Ka Abhiman’ (Honoring the Brave, Pride of the Nation).
Lt Gen Chandpuria, who assumed command of the Vajra Corps in July 2024, praised the NCC cadets for their commitment to welfare initiatives, public awareness campaigns, and particularly their impactful anti-drug efforts. In his address, he stressed the importance of discipline, values, and ethos, urging the cadets to take a proactive role in fostering a stronger, drug-free India. “NCC cadets are the vanguards of discipline and nation-building,” he stated, encouraging them to envision themselves as future leaders who will contribute to the nation’s development.
The rally attracted over 2,000 ex-servicemen and their families from Hoshiarpur and neighboring districts, creating a vibrant gathering alongside the NCC cadets, who donned their distinguished khaki uniforms complemented by green berets and red sashes. The event featured an impressive display of military weaponry, which served to highlight the capabilities of the Army while facilitating interactions among veterans, current serving personnel, and the youth.
Attendees captured moments of camaraderie as Lt Gen Chandpuria was photographed shaking hands with cadets, presenting awards, and engaging in conversations that reflected the spirit of unity between the Army’s past and its future.
Vajra Corps, also recognized as XI Corps, is headquartered in Jalandhar and operates under the auspices of the Western Command of the Indian Army. Established in 1950, the Corps was created to oversee the military formations in Punjab. Its name and emblem—a thunderbolt weapon of Lord Indra—symbolize sacrifice, drawing from the legendary tale of sage Dadhichi’s selfless act.
Since its inception in 1948, the NCC has been instrumental in fostering character, camaraderie, and a secular outlook among India’s youth. The cadets uphold a pledge to maintain the unity of the nation, aligning their mission with that of the Indian Army.
The rally not only paid homage to the sacrifices made by ex-servicemen but also emphasized the critical role of the NCC in instilling discipline and leadership qualities among young individuals. The event concluded with a group photograph featuring Lt Gen Chandpuria, NCC cadets, and staff, symbolizing the shared commitment of the Indian Army and its future leaders to the nation’s progress and security.
