Indian Naval Academy Celebrates Excellence at Annual Dinner Night

On May 26, 2025, the Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala hosted a significant and illustrious event known as the Academy Dinner Night at the Katari Cadets’ Mess. This occasion served as a formal celebration, marking the conclusion of the academic term and embodying the core values of tradition, discipline, and camaraderie inherent in naval life.

The dinner brought together a diverse gathering, including cadets, senior officers, instructors, and distinguished guests, all paying tribute to the accomplishments and spirit of the Academy community. A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Champion Squadron trophy to the Cheetah Squadron, a recognition of their exceptional performance during the term. This accolade further solidified their reputation following their recent success at the Inter Squadron Rowing & Pulling Championship in February 2024. Vice Admiral C.R. Praveen Nair, the Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy and the evening’s Chief Guest, praised Cheetah Squadron for exemplifying the guiding principles of duty, honor, and courage that the Academy upholds.

As part of the established traditions marking the end of term at INA, the dinner also spotlighted the contributions of international trainees, underlining INA’s commitment to fostering maritime cooperation and global military education. Special accolades were awarded to Midshipman MBM Fernando from Sri Lanka, who received the FOC-in-C (South) Trophy for the Most Improved Trainee, and Midshipman Kamrul Hasan from Bangladesh, recognized as the Best International Trainee. These honors highlighted the adaptability, commitment, and enthusiasm of the international cadets, enriching the Academy’s diverse learning atmosphere.

Set against the scenic backdrop of Ezhimala hills and the serene Kavvayi backwaters, the Academy Dinner Night featured traditional ceremonies and naval decorum that encapsulated the shared purpose of community life at the INA. The prominent display of the Indian flag and naval insignia throughout the event served as a reminder of the proud legacy of naval service that the Academy fosters.

The Indian Naval Academy, located on a vast coastal campus stretching along the Laccadive Sea, continues to be the leading institution for training officer cadets of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. Events such as the Academy Dinner Night reinforce the Academy’s mission to nurture leaders of character, prepared to meet the challenges of modern naval operations.
