The Indian Navy celebrated a significant milestone with the graduation of 18 officers from the 104th Helicopter Conversion Course at INS Rajali. Among the graduates was Sub Lieutenant Siddhi Hemant Dubey, who distinguished herself as the second woman to qualify as a helicopter pilot within the Indian Navy. The Passing Out Parade, conducted on June 9, underscored the Navy’s commitment to inclusivity and operational readiness in maritime aviation.
During the ceremony, the officers were presented with the prestigious ‘Golden Wings’ by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command. With his extensive experience and a Master’s degree in Defence Studies from the University of Madras, Vice Admiral Pendharkar praised the graduates for successfully completing a rigorous 22-week training program. He noted the vital roles they are expected to fill in various missions, including anti-piracy efforts, maritime surveillance, and humanitarian assistance in disaster situations.
The training took place at the Helicopter Training School at INS Rajali, recognized as one of Asia’s leading naval air bases. This comprehensive course aims to equip naval aviators with the necessary skills for a wide range of maritime operations. The achievement of Sub Lieutenant Dubey is particularly noteworthy and serves as a hallmark of progress following the Navy’s 2020 policy reforms that have broadened opportunities for women in combat and frontline roles.
This graduation emerges amidst a broader push to enhance naval aviation capabilities, with the Indian Ministry of Defence reporting a 15% increase in naval air operations since 2020.
