The Indian Navy has marked a significant advancement in its capabilities with the commissioning of a new static firing facility, named “Trinetra,” at Naval Station Bheemunipatnam, located near Visakhapatnam. This state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, on October 8, 2025.
Described as a major stride towards Atmanirbharta, which translates to self-reliance, the Trinetra facility was indigenously designed and developed, thus reducing the Navy’s dependency on foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The establishment of Trinetra is expected to empower the Indian Navy with the autonomy to evaluate and test its naval weapon systems, contributing significantly to the overall sustainment and longevity of its armament.
The facility’s primary role focuses on the scientific assessment of various naval weapon systems, including missiles, rockets, and associated platforms. Trinetra is equipped to capture and record essential performance parameters during testing phases, which is anticipated to enhance the reliability, precision, and combat readiness of the Navy’s arsenal for operational deployments.
