The Indian Navy is set to launch its inaugural half marathon in Chennai on December 14, anticipating participation from around 10,000 individuals. This event is organized to champion fitness, national unity, and social awareness, with a focus on three pivotal themes: Drug-Free India, Women Power, and Standing Against Online Gambling.
During a press briefing at INS Adyar Naval Headquarters, Commodore Suvarat Magon, the Naval Officer-in-Charge for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, emphasized that this marathon aims to transcend typical sporting competitions. "This competition will not be like the usual marathons. It is an attempt to unite people to improve physical strength, national unity, and the spirit of service," he stated.
The marathon will include three distinct categories to cater to participants of varying ages and abilities:
- INS Adyar Half Marathon (21.1 km) – This category is open to participants aged 18 and older.
- INS Parundu Run (10 km) – Designed for participants aged 15 and above.
- INS Pallava Fun Run (5 km) – This section welcomes participants of all age groups.
Commodore Magon also revealed the official race T-shirt during the announcement, and highlighted a substantial prize pool of ₹10 lakh that will be distributed across different categories. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all runners, the event will offer essential amenities, including medical assistance, hydration points, and ambulance support along the marathon route.
This initiative forms part of a larger series of fitness events led by the Indian Navy across the nation, aiming to promote a healthy lifestyle while simultaneously strengthening the ties between the Armed Forces and the community.
