Indian Government along with the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy Culminated Operation Kaveri which was launched to bring back stranded Indians from the country of Sudan which is facing an almost civil war due to groups fighting for power in the country.
Operation Kaveri Culminates
The Indian Officials commented that yesterday India closed down the transit facility created at the International Indian School Jeddah for Sudan evacuees during Operation Kaveri. The facility was providing comfort to more than 3500 evacuees & served as the nerve centre for planning their onward movement to India. On Friday Morning, India wrapped up the Operation to bring back all the Indians from the war-torn country when the last IAF C-130J Aircraft landed on Indian Soil with 47 passengers. With this, the total count of all the Indians became 3862.
The Workforce ensuring the safety and security of all Indians abroad was our inspiration. Moving passengers to Port Sudan from various locations across the country in precarious security circumstances was a complex exercise. It took 17 Indian Airforce flights and 5 Indian Navy Ship sorties to transfer all these people from Port Sudan to safety in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. 86 nationals were evacuated through the countries bordering Sudan.
IAF conducts 24-hour non-stop operation
A C-17 Globemaster aircraft from the Indian Air Force took out from Hindan on the night of May 3–4, 2023, and traveled through the night before landing in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in the early hours of May 5. In order to avoid any potential fuel shortages or refueling delays, the airplane flew nonstop across war-torn Sudan after refueling in Jeddah as it continued its voyage to India. The airplane filled up on additional gasoline in Jeddah to guarantee the mission’s successful conclusion. This was a special operation because the C-17 Globemaster aircraft of the Indian Air Force carried 192 passengers, most of whom were women, children, and senior citizens. These travelers were either overseas Indian citizens (OCIs), non-resident Indians (NRIs), or foreign nationalities. They were not allowed to land in Jeddah, so they had to be flown nonstop on large aircraft all the way to India.
Operation Kaveri
Operation Kaveri was started by the Indian government with the intention of removing Indian citizens from Sudan, which is presently engulfed in a bloody conflict. The fighting between the army and the RSF paramilitary group has severely damaged critical infrastructure, including hospitals, and turned civilian areas into battlegrounds. Due to this, millions of residents in Khartoum, the capital city, have been forced to stay inside their houses and are currently experiencing a food and water crisis.
