In a significant move to bolster cyber defense capabilities across Europe and beyond, Spanish defense contractor Indra Group and Italy’s Leonardo have formalized a memorandum of understanding at Leonardo’s headquarters in Rome. The agreement was signed by the respective CEOs, Indraโs Josรฉ Vicente de los Mozos and Leonardoโs Roberto Cingolani, signaling a strengthened collaboration in the realm of digital security.
The partnership focuses on enhancing security measures for critical infrastructure and fostering innovation within the cybersecurity domain. By combining forces, the two companies plan to offer advanced cyber solutions, specialized training, and cyber management services tailored for both public and private sector clients. This initiative also includes coordinated efforts to analyze and respond to the evolving landscape of cyber threats.
รngel Escribano, Indraโs executive chairman, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in facilitating European industrial cooperation. He highlighted that the agreement will assist in joint bids and emphasized a commitment to establishing value chains that are sovereign, open, and interoperable for Europe and NATO. “It is essential that critical knowledge and technological assets remain under EU control,” he noted.
Conversely, Cingolani underlined the pivotal role that cybersecurity plays in Leonardoโs strategic framework. He asserted that for European defense to be effective, it must focus on innovation, anticipation, and collaboration. By leveraging Leonardoโs expertise and proprietary technologies, the collaboration aims to translate technological advancements into tangible benefits for European nations.
As of early 2026, Indra Group boasts a workforce of over 60,000 employees globally, while Leonardo has a similarly sized team. Notably, about 36,000 of Indra’s specialists are based in Spain, with approximately 37,000 of Leonardo’s experts located in Italy. This partnership signals a promising future for European cybersecurity initiatives and the collaborative efforts needed to face emerging threats in an increasingly interconnected world.
