IPL 2025 Closing Ceremony to Honor Indian Armed Forces in Ahmedabad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed plans for a significant tribute at the closing ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which will be held on June 3 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This year’s event will pay homage to the Indian Armed Forces, particularly following the recent successes of Operation Sindoor, where Indian military forces executed precision strikes on terror camps across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the ceremony would honor the valor and commitment of the armed forces. “Yes, the IPL 2025 closing ceremony will honour the Indian Armed Forces,” he stated. Invitations have been sent to several high-ranking military officials, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, indicating the BCCI’s intent to include military leadership in this celebration of bravery.

The ceremony promises to feature a grand musical evening, integrating performances from military bands alongside popular artists, creating an emotional backdrop ahead of the IPL 2025 final. A senior BCCI official expressed gratitude for the service and bravery of the armed forces, affirming, “We want to give a special tribute to honour their efforts under Operation Sindoor.”

This decision to honor the military comes in light of severe security concerns that affected the IPL 2025 season earlier this year. Following a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that resulted in the loss of 26 tourist lives on April 22, the IPL faced a temporary suspension. Amid rising tensions, Operation Sindoor was launched, ensuring a targeted approach toward terrorist infrastructures. The league subsequently resumed with renewed patriotic fervor, featuring renditions of the national anthem and heartfelt “Thank You, Armed Forces” messages displayed across stadium screens.

The BCCI has previously shown its support for the armed forces; during the IPL 2019 opening ceremony, the board honored military personnel and committed Rs. 20 crore to their welfare following the devastating Pulwama terror attack.

As the playoffs of IPL 2025 near, Qualifier 1 is set for May 29 in Mullanpur, with the Eliminator scheduled for May 30 at the same venue. Qualifier 2 will take place later at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Currently, the Punjab Kings have secured a berth in Qualifier 1, while the Mumbai Indians have advanced to the Eliminator. The final playoff lineup will be determined through an upcoming match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Kings.

The IPL 2025 closing ceremony aims to weave together the themes of cricket and patriotism, providing a heartfelt salute to the nation’s defenders. This finale promises to be an unforgettable blend of sports and national pride, celebrating not just the tournament’s champions but also the sacrifices of the armed forces that protect the nation.
