At the IDEX 2025 exhibition in Abu Dhabi, India’s Kalyani Group has made headlines by unveiling its cutting-edge 155 mm/45 caliber mounted gun system, named the Multi-terrain Artillery Gun (MArG). This innovative artillery piece is noteworthy for being the world’s first 155 mm system mounted on a 4×4 high mobility vehicle (HMV), challenging the conventional norms that typically see heavier guns being installed on larger 6×6 platforms.
Weighing in at 23.5 tons, the MArG is designed to integrate firepower, range, and mobility within a single unit. The system boasts an impressive range of over 36 kilometers (about 22 miles) when using standard ammunition. Its operational capabilities are enhanced by a rapid rate of fire that allows it to unleash 10 rounds in just three minutes during intensive operations or maintain a sustained rate of 42 rounds within a 60-minute timeframe.
In terms of preparedness, the MArG can load 18 rounds and be combat-ready in a mere 1.5 minutes during daylight hours, while this preparation time extends slightly to 2 minutes after dark. The design also emphasizes versatility and interoperability, supporting both NATO and locally developed ammunition, which positions the MArG as a valuable asset for collaborative military operations with allied forces.
The MArG 45 features a notable elevation range from -2 degrees to +72 degrees and a traverse capability of 25 degrees in both left and right directions, enhancing its tactical adaptability on the battlefield.
The MArG 45 serves as an upgraded variant of the previously unveiled MArG 155mm/39 caliber, which was introduced in December 2021. Baba Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge Ltd, highlighted the significance of this mounted gun platform as a “significant leap in defense technology.” He emphasized Kalyani Group’s dedication to innovation and excellence, asserting that the MArG stands as a testament to their ability to create advanced artillery systems that are designed and manufactured in India.
Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited, a subsidiary of Bharat Forge, is at the helm of this groundbreaking development, showcasing India’s growing capabilities in the defense technology sector.
