Kinnaur District Mourns the Loss of Naik Pushpendra Negi, a Fallen Soldier

A profound sense of sorrow enveloped Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district as the community came together in Thaimgarang village to bid farewell to Naik Pushpendra Negi, a 29-year-old soldier of the 19 Dogra Regiment. He tragically lost his life while on duty in Assam, leaving a heartbroken family and a grieving village.

On a fateful Monday, while performing his duties amidst a severe storm in Assam, a large branch from a tree fell on Pushpendra, resulting in fatal injuries. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed shortly thereafter. Pushpendra’s untimely death not only impacted his young family but also sent ripples of grief throughout his home community.

The return of his mortal remains to Thaimgarang was marked by a challenging journey that began with adverse weather conditions. After being airlifted to Delhi, his body was flown to Chandigarh before finally being transported by road to Kinnaur.

A solemn procession greeted the arrival of Pushpendra’s body, with villagers, friends, and family gathering to pay their last respects. The scene was heartbreaking as his wife, Kirti, clutched the coffin, her sorrow palpable as she rendered a final salute to her husband. Little Etik, their six-year-old son, stood close by, unable to comprehend the profound loss enveloping their family. Pushpendra’s parents, Mahendra Negi and Sarla Devi, sat nearby in silent mourning, supported by neighbors and friends who traveled from near and far to stand with the bereaved family.

As the final rites commenced, chants of “Shaheed Pushpendra Negi Amar Rahe” (Martyr Pushpendra Negi Lives On) resonated through the village, reflecting the deep-seated respect and admiration for his sacrifice. The ceremonies were conducted with full state and military honors, affirming the value placed on the lives of those who serve in the armed forces.

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri expressed their condolences, highlighting the pride that Himachal Pradesh takes in its brave soldiers. “Himachal is proud of its brave son. His sacrifice will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude,” the Chief Minister remarked, echoing the sentiments shared by many.

Naik Pushpendra Negi’s death has cast a dark shadow over Kinnaur, a region that continues to mourn yet another soldier who dedicated his life to serving the nation, exemplifying the courage and commitment of those who stand ready to protect the country under any circumstances.
