Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth Visits Nagpur, Highlights Indian Army's Operational Readiness and Veteran Support

Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Southern Command, recently undertook an inspection of the Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub Area (UM&G Sub Area) located in Nagpur. The general’s visit was marked by an in-depth briefing on the formation’s essential operational roles, its significant contributions to humanitarian and disaster relief initiatives, as well as the welfare measures in place for ex-servicemen in the area.

The visit also entailed a tour of the historic Sitabuldi Fort, the headquarters of the UM&G Sub Area. This fort, a key landmark in Nagpur, has been under the administration of the UM&G Sub Area since its relocation from Mumbai in 2019. Sitabuldi Fort is renowned for its historical significance, particularly as the site of the notable Battle of Sitabuldi in 1817, which reflects the region’s military heritage.

During his engagement with the officers at the UM&G Sub Area, Lt Gen Seth gained valuable insights into their operational activities and the challenges they face. He expressed his appreciation for the exemplary efforts of the personnel, acknowledging their commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism. Lt Gen Seth underscored the importance of operational readiness, urging all ranks to remain vigilant and prepared as part of their duty within the largest command of the Indian Army.

Since taking command of the Southern Command on July 1, 2024, Lt Gen Seth has focused on enhancing operational capabilities while ensuring support for the veteran community throughout the region. Previously an armored corps officer, he served as the Army Commander of the Jaipur-based South Western Command before assuming his current role.

Nagpur, recognized as a strategic hub in Central India, is home to vital military infrastructure, including the Maintenance Command of the Indian Air Force and the UM&G Sub Area, thereby reinforcing its significance within the nation’s defense framework. The visit of Lt Gen Seth further highlights the Indian Army’s commitment to strengthening operational capabilities while fostering the welfare of servicemen and veterans alike.
