Lieutenant General Manish Erry has officially taken command of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, following the accomplished three-year tenure of Lieutenant General Virendra Vats. Under Lt Gen Vats’ leadership, the DSSC witnessed substantial advancements, reinforcing its esteemed reputation for academic excellence and promoting joint training initiatives. His term also saw significant strides in enhancing international military cooperation with various partner nations.

Expressing gratitude for the support from both the civilian staff and the local community, Lt Gen Erry, who brings 37 years of distinguished service and numerous accolades, underscored his intention to solidify the DSSC’s position as a premier institution for Professional Military Education (PME) and a hub for jointmanship within the Indian Armed Forces.

“It is an honour to lead this prestigious institution that shapes the strategic leadership of our armed forces. I look forward to furthering DSSC’s legacy as a centre of excellence in military education and cooperation,” Lt Gen Erry stated.

Established in 1947, the Defence Services Staff College is renowned as one of the oldest and most respected military training institutions globally, nestled in the scenic Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu. The DSSC trains middle-ranking officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with personnel from allied nations.

The college’s core mission is to deliver advanced training in warfare’s art and science, emphasizing joint operations, strategic thought, and leadership development. Each year, its officers engage in a comprehensive curriculum that covers essential subjects such as tactics, operational art, logistics, military technology, and inter-service collaboration.

Over the years, DSSC has been instrumental in producing some of India’s most prominent military leaders, including Chiefs of Staff from all three branches of the Armed Forces. Its significant role in promoting jointmanship and international military diplomacy cements its status as a fundamental component of India’s defense education framework.
