Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, Army Commander of the Sapta Shakti Command, conducted a comprehensive review of the Bathinda Military Station today, stressing the paramount importance of the Indian Army’s transition toward technology-driven transformation and operational readiness.
This visit aligns with the Ministry of Defence’s ‘Year of Reforms’ initiative and the broader ‘Decade of Transformation’ campaign, which spans from 2023 to 2032. These efforts aim to modernize the Indian Army in order to effectively respond to evolving security challenges.
During his visit, Lt Gen Singh evaluated the training standards and combat preparedness of various formations, including infantry, artillery, and logistics support units stationed at this strategic military base. Positioned just 100 kilometers from the Pakistan border, Bathinda Military Station serves as the home of the Chetak Corps, playing a crucial role in the defense of southern Punjab and parts of Rajasthan.
The base, covering over 50 acres, has experienced significant modernization in recent years. Enhanced accommodations and upgraded facilities have bolstered its strategic capabilities, ensuring that it remains a vital asset for the Indian military.
A key aspect of the review was the emphasis on integrating cutting-edge technologies into military operations. Lt Gen Singh highlighted the necessity of practical, technology-enabled training to confront threats in both the physical and cyber realms. He assessed recent innovations, including indigenous drone warfare systems and counter-drone technologies that were initially tested in desert environments earlier this year.
In addition to the review, the Army Commander engaged with troops across various ranks, commending their discipline and dedication. Drawing from his extensive operational background, particularly in counter-insurgency operations along the Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir, he underscored the importance of fostering adaptable and future-ready forces.
Established in 1979 under the leadership of Lt Gen ML Tuli, Bathinda Military Station has evolved into a prominent military and logistical hub. Its infrastructure includes an integrated ammunition dump and housing for multiple formations. The ongoing development of the station reflects the Indian Army’s commitment to innovation, self-reliance, and heightened preparedness amid dynamic regional security conditions.
