Lieutenant General N.S. Raja Subramani, the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, retired today after a distinguished 39-year career in the Indian Army. The farewell ceremony took place at the National War Memorial, a significant location dedicated to honoring over 26,000 personnel who sacrificed their lives for the nation since Independence. This was followed by a formal Guard of Honour at South Block, marking the end of his tenure as the 47th Vice Chief.
The proceedings unfolded amid a gentle monsoon drizzle, which added a reflective tone to the solemn occasion. Lt Gen Subramani paid his respects to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the memorial, emphasizing his deep reverence for those who served.
Having been appointed Vice Chief on July 1, 2024, General Subramani is well-regarded for his professionalism and operational acumen. His leadership style, characterized by calmness in complex scenarios, earned him respect throughout his military career. He held various key command, instructional, and staff positions, and his exceptional service was recognized through numerous awards, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Sena Medal (SM), and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
