The primary purpose of this visit was to assess the prevailing security situation and the operational preparedness of the forces in the region.

During his visit, ground commanders provided detailed briefings on several key aspects, including the counter-infiltration grid and the surveillance posture currently in place. The discussions also revolved around the security measures taken to maintain dominance in both forward areas and the hinterland. A significant focus was placed on sustaining a robust defensive posture, as well as ensuring prompt and calibrated responses to any emerging threats.

Lt Gen Sharma underscored the vital necessity for a strong and proactive intelligence grid, highlighting the importance of close collaboration with sister agencies. This coordination is deemed essential for enabling timely, accurate, and effective counter-terror and counter-infiltration operations. He praised the troops for their professionalism, vigilance, and ongoing efforts to ensure peace and stability in the area.

Additionally, the Army Commander visited the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) located in Gulmarg, where he assessed the ongoing training activities designed to enhance operational capabilities. His review focused on the integration of modern technology and innovative training methodologies tailored for high-altitude and extreme-weather warfare, which is crucial for soldiers operating in such challenging conditions.

Lt Gen Sharma commended HAWS for its significant role in preparing soldiers and leaders to navigate complex terrains effectively. He stressed the need for an evolving approach to training practices in order to align with new technological advancements and the changing landscape of warfare.
