Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh, the Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS), recently conducted a significant visit to the defence manufacturing facilities of Larsen & Toubro Ltd and Bharat Forge Ltd in Pune. The primary aim of this visit was to gain insights into emerging defence technologies that are being developed in alignment with the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, which emphasizes self-reliance in various sectors, including defense.
During his time at the facilities, Lt Gen Singh was provided with comprehensive briefings on a diverse range of ongoing indigenous projects. These projects include advancements in robotics, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and contemporary artillery platforms, showcasing the increasing sophistication and capability of India’s private defence manufacturing sector. Senior officials from both companies highlighted their progress on critical programmes along with innovative measures designed to enhance operational effectiveness and survivability for the Armed Forces on modern battlefields.
Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh expressed his appreciation for the concentrated efforts of India’s defence industry in producing high-tech, home-grown solutions for the Armed Forces. He emphasized the essential role of indigenous capabilities in addressing the complex and evolving security landscape, reducing reliance on imports, and bolstering the nation’s overall defence preparedness.
This visit not only underscored the Indian Army’s commitment to fostering close collaborations with domestic industry partners but also reflected a strategic initiative to accelerate self-reliance in defence production and technology development.
