Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), conducted an important visit to the Simulator Development Division (SDD) on December 18, 2025. The primary aim of this visit was to assess ongoing advancements in training technologies that the Indian Army is implementing.
During his time at SDD, Lt Gen Sharma received detailed briefings regarding several significant development projects focused on cutting-edge technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), advanced simulators, and robotics. The presentations showcased a robust commitment to creating immersive and technology-driven training solutions. These innovations are designed to enhance the realism and efficiency of training processes, while also making them more adaptable to various operational scenarios.
The Army Commander commended the strong emphasis on indigenisation and innovation displayed at SDD. He remarked that these initiatives are crucial for the development of next-generation training simulators and modern educational tools that are specifically tailored to meet the operational needs of the Indian Army. According to Lt Gen Sharma, it is vital to harness emerging technologies to not only improve training outcomes but also to significantly lower costs and bolster self-reliance in defense capabilities.
His visit reinforced ARTRAC’s ongoing commitment to promoting indigenous solutions within the military framework. It highlighted the necessity of integrating advanced simulation-based training methodologies to enhance the preparedness, skill development, and overall operational effectiveness of the Indian Army.
