Lt Gen Katiyar Reviews Operational Preparedness and Modernization of Golden Arrow Division

Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Western Command, made an in-depth visit to the Golden Arrow Division on July 19. His primary objectives were to examine the unit’s operational readiness, ongoing infrastructure projects, and the welfare and digitization initiatives being implemented.

Established on October 1, 1940, at Attock, the Golden Arrow Division boasts a storied history, having played a crucial role in the Burma and Thailand campaigns during World War II. The division was instrumental in the disarmament of Japanese troops and contributed significantly to the liberation of Allied prisoners of war. Post-1947, it has been a key component of the Indian Army’s 7th Infantry Division.

During his visit, Lt Gen Katiyar focused on the ongoing modernization efforts within the division. He assessed various digitization projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency. In line with the Indian Army’s overarching modernization strategy, recent evaluations indicate that these digital integrations have improved coordination and response times by roughly 15% across different formations.

A poignant highlight of the visit was the recognition of Master Svarn Singh, a ten-year-old boy from Ferozepur, who was honored for his support during Operation Sindoor, a community engagement initiative carried out by the division in border areas. While specific details regarding the operation remain classified, the initiative signifies the Army’s commitment to local outreach and civic support in sensitive regions along the India-Pakistan border.

Lt Gen Katiyar praised the professionalism and operational dedication exhibited by the Golden Arrow Division. He reiterated the importance of maintaining high combat readiness while simultaneously prioritizing the welfare and morale of the troops. His inspections during the visit included reviews of infrastructure developments, living conditions, and ongoing projects, all aimed at ensuring that the Golden Arrow Division remains agile and prepared in the face of emerging security challenges.
