Lt Gen Rajiv K Sahni Reviewing Drone

Lieutenant General Rajiv K Sahni, the Director General of Electronics & Mechanical Engineers and Colonel Commandant, undertook a significant visit to the Konark Corps and various Electronics & Mechanical Engineering (EME) units located in Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Nagtalao. The purpose of this visit was to assess the technical capabilities and operational support initiatives of the units.

During his tour, Lt Gen Sahni engaged with personnel to evaluate the engineering support framework essential for sustaining combat-critical equipment. This equipment plays a pivotal role in ensuring the operational readiness of military formations, which is crucial for the effectiveness of the Indian Army.

A key focus of the visit was on indigenous technology and innovation. Lt Gen Sahni expressed his commendation for the “Konark Eagles,” acknowledging their outstanding mission reliability regarding critical combat equipment. He highlighted their successful establishment of an in-house ecosystem that facilitates the mass production and maintenance of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (CUAS). These initiatives serve as a testament to the Indian Army’s commitment to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aimed at bolstering indigenous defense capabilities and decreasing reliance on foreign sources.

The visit also placed emphasis on advanced manufacturing techniques, particularly additive manufacturing technologies, which are being leveraged to overcome engineering challenges and enhance maintenance efficiency in operational environments.

Furthermore, the General Officer praised the accomplishments of the Konark Corps Technology Centre, which has made strides in developing sophisticated technical infrastructure that incorporates robotics and cobotics. These advancements are designed to augment engineering support capabilities significantly.

Through this visit, there was a clear emphasis on the Indian Army’s intent to strengthen its technological integration and promote indigenous solutions. This drive towards infusing technology and innovation is vital for ensuring reliable technical support for modern combat systems and meeting future battlefield demands effectively.
