At a prestigious Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Major General Vikas Choudhary, YSM, Inspector General of the National Security Guard (NSG) Training Academy, was awarded the esteemed Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by the President of India. This accolade acknowledges his exceptional service to the nation and highlights his significant contributions to enhancing the operational capabilities of the NSG.

The award is a testament to Maj Gen Choudhary’s exemplary leadership and steadfast dedication in advancing the Training Academy’s mission. Under his guidance, the NSG Training Academy has further developed its specialized counter-terrorism training and operational readiness, solidifying the NSG’s standing as India’s premier counter-terrorism force.

Following the ceremony, the Director General of the NSG extended his congratulations to Maj Gen Choudhary, recognizing the honor as a reflection of his continued excellence and commitment to service.

Commissioned into the 3rd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles after graduating from the Indian Military Academy in 1991, Maj Gen Choudhary is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy in Pune. Over his distinguished military career, which spans more than three decades, he has operated in various challenging environments, including Sikkim, Punjab, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as along the India-China border.

He has commanded the 3 Rajputana Rifles and has served in pivotal roles, including as Defence Attaché at the Indian Embassy in China and as a brigade commander in the North East. After completing higher military studies at the National Defence College, he rose to the rank of Major General and has fulfilled key leadership positions within both the Indian Army and the NSG.

Hailing from Sankhol village in Jhajjar district, Haryana, Maj Gen Choudhary comes from a family with a rich military heritage. His father, Colonel Krishna Choudhary, served in the Indian Army, and his brother is a retired Wing Commander from the Indian Air Force.

The conferment of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal signifies recognition of Maj Gen Choudhary’s exceptional professionalism, leadership, and lasting contributions to enhancing India’s national security and strengthening its specialized counter-terrorism capabilities.
