A nine-member Special Forces Team of the Indian Army participated in Multinational Special Forces Exercise Cormorant Strike XI held at Sri Lanka from 03 to 30 Sep 2021. Special Forces teams of six countries participated in the exercise. Troops from the Special Forces Group of Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan, and Nepal participated in the exercise.

The Exercise Cormorant Strike is the premier Field Training Exercise (FTX) of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.

The 11th Edition has been exclusively designed for the Special Operations Forces (SOF) in a joint setting to build synergy with other Arms and Sister Services. Representatives from foreign countries including India, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan and Bangladesh are participating in the event as players and observers.

The 11th joint Tri-service Mega Field Training Exercise (FTX) ‘Exercise – Cormorant Strike XI – 2021’, organized by the Army with the participation of foreign military representatives got underway on Friday (03 August 2021) at Operational Headquarters at Infantry Training Center, Minneriya.

‘Exercise – Cormorant Strike XI – 2021′ commenced after a briefing delivered by the Exercise Director, Major General Harendra Ranasinghe together with the Deputy Ex-Director, Major General Anil Samarasiri, and other stakeholders.

A total of 2846 participants, including foreign troops as observers or contributors, representatives from foreign countries, such as India, Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan, and Bangladesh as players and observers are also expected to participate in this Field Training Exercise (FTX) ‘Exercise.

The Exercise will be spearheaded in general areas of Mannar, Wilpattu, Arippu, Thunukkai, Vavunikulam, Nedunkerni, Chundikulam, Nayaru, Thiriyaya, Nilaveli, Thoppur, Ilankanthai, Vakarai, Thonithattumadu, Narakamulla, Kanchikudichchiaru, Chenkalady, Dambulla, Moragahakanda, Meemure, Colombo, Dikowita and will continue until 25th September 2021 before the closing ceremony gets underway on 26 September 2021.
