Naval Group Renews In-Service Support Contract with Egyptian Navy for Key Vessels

Naval Group has solidified its commitment to the Egyptian Navy by extending its in-service support contract, aimed at ensuring the maintenance and operational readiness of seven strategic vessels over the next five years. This renewal underscores both parties’ enduring collaboration, which spans over a decade.

The scope of the contract includes comprehensive maintenance for a variety of vessels, notably the multi-mission FREMM frigate, Tahya Misr, along with two Egyptian Landing Helicopter Docks (E-LHD), Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar El Sadat. Additionally, the agreement encompasses four Gowind corvettes: El Fateh, Port Said, El Moez, and Al Ismailia. This diverse portfolio highlights the crucial role these vessels play in enhancing the operational capabilities of the Egyptian Navy.

Naval Group’s enduring relationship with the Egyptian Navy reflects its commitment to strengthening local capabilities. The shipbuilding company has made significant investments in Egypt, including the establishment of a subsidiary in Alexandria in 2018. This presence not only reinforces operational collaboration but also aims to generate job opportunities for Egyptian nationals and facilitate partnerships with local suppliers, thereby integrating them into ship maintenance initiatives.

In addition to in-service support, Naval Group’s partnership with the Egyptian Navy extends to various modernization and capability enhancement projects. Notably, the delivery of the Tahya Misr FREMM frigate in 2017 marks a significant milestone, positioning it as the Navy’s most advanced surface combatant adept in anti-submarine, anti-air, and anti-surface operations.

Furthermore, the collaboration has focused on technology transfer programs that bolster Egypt’s indigenous shipbuilding expertise, particularly in the construction of Gowind corvettes. These initiatives contribute to a broader framework aimed at enhancing the Navy’s capabilities and sustainability.

Naval Group has also prioritized the training and development of Egyptian naval personnel through comprehensive training programs. By doing so, the partnership not only aims to ensure immediate operational effectiveness but also to foster long-term sustainability through integrated logistics solutions tailored to the Egyptian Navy’s needs.

This ongoing collaboration reflects a strategic alignment between Naval Group and the Egyptian Navy, as both entities work towards enhancing maritime security and operational readiness in the region.
