It is divided into invertebrates (like Porifera, Cnidaria, Arthropoda, Mollusca) and vertebrates (such as fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals). Classification helps in studying organisms based on structural, functional, and genetic traits, aiding our understanding of evolutionary relationships.


Genetics

Genetics is the branch of biology that deals with heredity (passing of traits from parents to offspring) and variation. The field was founded by Gregor Mendel, who established laws of inheritance based on his work with pea plants. The basic unit of heredity is the gene, located on chromosomes inside the nucleus.

DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) is the molecule that carries genetic information. It is composed of nucleotides and is responsible for the expression of traits. Genes can be dominant or recessive, and their combinations determine phenotypes. Modern genetics also includes topics like mutation, genetic disorders, and genetic engineering, which have broad implications in medicine and agriculture.
