In a poignant expression of solidarity, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has committed ₹1 crore to assist the families of victims from the Pahalgam terror attack that took place on April 22, resulting in the tragic loss of 26 lives, including those of two foreign nationals and a businessman from Karnataka.
NSE CEO Ashish Chauhan announced the donation through a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressing deep sorrow over the incident. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic terrorist attack in Kashmir. In a humble gesture of support, NSE pledges ₹1 crore to the next of kin of the victims, standing in solidarity with their families during this difficult time,” he stated.
This donation is part of a broader wave of support that has arisen nationwide in response to the attack. Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Industries, has also stepped in to offer free medical treatment to the injured at the Reliance Foundation Sir HN Hospital in Mumbai, showcasing a significant commitment to humanitarian assistance.
In the aftermath of the attack, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced a financial compensation plan that includes ₹10 lakh ex gratia for the families of those who lost their lives, ₹2 lakh for those sustaining serious injuries, and ₹1 lakh for individuals with minor injuries.
The attack occurred at Baisaran, a renowned tourist spot often referred to as “Mini Switzerland.” There, terrorists targeted unarmed tourists, marking it as the deadliest incident in Jammu and Kashmir since the catastrophic Pulwama attack in 2019.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the violent act, asserting, “Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice… Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger.”
The attack provoked widespread outrage and grief across the country, leading to strong condemnations from various political and social sectors. As investigations proceed, there has been an increase in security measures throughout the Kashmir Valley, alongside escalating calls for decisive action against those responsible for this atrocity.
