Over 5,000 Runners Honor Indian Soldiers at Venky’s AHRR Delhi Soldierathon 2025

In a remarkable demonstration of national pride and community spirit, over 5,000 participants gathered at the Army Hospital Research & Referral (AHRR) grounds in New Delhi for the Venky’s AHRR Delhi Soldierathon 2025. This significant event was organized to honor the martyrs and distinguished servicemen of the Indian Armed Forces, transforming a mere run into an emotional tribute filled with purpose and unity.

The Soldierathon was more than just a sporting event; it served as a heartfelt homage to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation. Hosted by Fitistan – Ek Fit Bharat, India’s largest community-driven fitness initiative, in collaboration with the esteemed Military Hospital AHRR, the event attracted an eclectic group comprising active soldiers, veterans, civilians, students, and fitness aficionados. Each runner brought with them a profound appreciation for the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces.

Participants could choose from three distinct race categories catering to individuals from all walks of life:

  • 10 km Timed Run
  • 5 km Fun Run
  • 3 km Walk

The run commenced at 5:45 AM, enveloped in an atmosphere thick with patriotic fervor. The honorable Governor of Mizoram, General V. K. Singh, inaugurated the event by flagging off the participants, setting an inspiring tone for a day dedicated to heartfelt tributes and vibrant camaraderie. The presence of civilians running alongside Indian soldiers added a unique dimension to the experience, allowing participants to draw inspiration from the soldiers’ resilience, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the nation.

Beyond its unifying spirit, the Soldierathon also aimed to address a vital social cause. The proceeds from the event will support the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Center in Kirkee, Pune, a facility committed to the rehabilitation of soldiers who have sustained spinal injuries while serving. This aspect of the event resonated deeply with both participants and sponsors, reinforcing the message that a nation’s strength lies in its ability to care for its protectors.

The guiding forces behind this heartfelt endeavor are Major Dr. Surendra Poonia, VSM (a former Special Forces officer), and Mrs. Shilpa Bhagat, Miss India World 2013. Under their influential leadership, Fitistan – Ek Fit Bharat has blossomed into a nationwide movement that not only advocates physical fitness but also fosters social change through meaningful events.

Commenting on the significance of the Soldierathon, Major Dr. Poonia remarked, “The Soldierathon is more than just a run — it’s our collective salute to India’s bravest. We thank every participant, volunteer, and especially our partners like Venky’s, who made this event possible. Through fitness, we honor those who protect us — and today, we ran with purpose.”

As the sun rose over Delhi, the vision of thousands running together — many wrapped in the national flag and others displaying badges of honor — created a powerful image of a grateful nation united in recognition of its heroes. The event was characterized by emotional moments, enthusiastic spectators, and an overwhelming spirit of service, marking it as an iconic milestone in community-led patriotism.

The Venky’s AHRR Delhi Soldierathon 2025 stands as a testament to the profound impact that fitness, patriotism, and compassion can make, measured not only in kilometers run but also in lives touched and heroes commemorated.
