Overnight Russian Attacks Wound 21 Ukrainians Amid US Ceasefire Efforts

At least 21 individuals in Ukraine sustained injuries during a series of Russian attacks that occurred overnight, according to regional officials on Wednesday. This escalation in aerial bombardments comes despite ongoing efforts by the United States to mediate a ceasefire between the two nations.

The most severe attack was reported in the central industrial region of Dnipropetrovsk, where Governor Sergiy Lysak announced that 15 people were injured. The governor posted images on social media showing significant damage to multiple buildings following the strikes. The victims of this attack ranged in age from 18 to 87, with eight individuals requiring hospitalization for their injuries.

The Ukrainian air force reported that Russian forces launched a total of 55 drones overnight. However, Ukrainian air defense units were able to intercept and shoot down 32 of these unmanned aerial vehicles, limiting potential damage.

In the eastern Donetsk region, which Russia claims as part of its territory, a “massive” drone attack targeted the frontline city of Kramatorsk, resulting in injuries to three civilians—a girl aged 11, her mother, and her grandmother. Similarly, in the Zaporizhzhia region, also claimed by Russia following its annexation in late 2022, a 60-year-old man was reported injured.

Local officials in the Kharkiv region, which borders Russia, indicated that both a 65-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were wounded in an assault targeting civilian facilities.

Despite ongoing discussions between the Trump administration and officials from both Ukraine and Russia aimed at ceasing hostilities, no substantial progress has been achieved thus far. Concurrently, the Russian defense ministry claimed to have intercepted and downed 158 Ukrainian drones in the western and southern parts of Ukraine, which it asserted temporarily disrupted operations at several civilian airports.
