The Polish Air Force has reached a significant milestone with the graduation of the first class of F-35A Lightning II pilots. These airmen have successfully completed their training, which took place at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Arkansas. Their training included rigorous practical sessions and a comprehensive set of theoretical and simulator drills.
Beginning their practical training in January, the Polish pilots were guided by the US 33rd Fighter Wing, which provided initial instructions from Eglin Air Force Base in Florida just three months prior. This marks a notable achievement as the Polish pilots are the first foreign servicemen to undergo training at this specific air force base.
Poland’s Defense Minister WÅ‚adysÅ‚aw Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed his congratulations, highlighting the professionalism and extraordinary experience that contributed to the success of these pilots. In his remarks, he underscored the importance of their service in strengthening Poland’s defense capabilities.
The newly trained pilots are expected to enhance Poland’s operational readiness and foster greater interoperability with allied forces. This development aligns with Poland’s strategic goals as the nation plans to acquire a total of 32 F-35A jets by the year 2030. The acquisition forms part of a $6 billion military deal with the United States finalized in 2019.
These advanced jets are set to replace Poland’s aging fleet of Russian-made MiG-29 and Su-22 aircraft, many of which have been in service since the 1970s. The deal aims not only to modernize Poland’s air force but also to bolster its self-defense capabilities against regional threats, ensuring seamless integration with US military forces.
