Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa Unveils Export Configuration of Borsuk Amphibious Infantry Fighting Vehicle in Slovakia

Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), the Polish state defense enterprise, recently showcased an export configuration of its Borsuk amphibious infantry fighting vehicle at a defense exhibit in Bratislava, Slovakia. This event highlights PGZ’s commitment to enhancing its export offerings through international collaboration.

The Borsuk combines PGZ’s proprietary Universal Modular Tracked Platform (UMTP) chassis with the Turra 30 V9 remote-controlled turret, developed by Slovak company EVPÚ. This collaboration marks the first time these two technologies have been integrated, creating a vehicle tailored for export markets while still demonstrating cutting-edge capabilities.

Equipped with a suite of armaments, the export model features a 30-millimeter automatic cannon, a 7.62-millimeter support machine gun, and the advanced Spike LR/LR2 anti-tank missile system. This configuration is aimed at meeting the requirements of modern military forces looking for versatile and effective combat solutions.

PGZ emphasized that the lightweight design of the Borsuk addresses the increasing demand for modular and NATO-interoperable combat platforms. This flexibility allows users to customize the vehicle’s armor, weapons, and mission systems according to their specific operational needs. Arkadiusz Bąk, PGZ’s vice president, remarked on the significance of unveiling this new internationalized configuration: “Presenting the export variant of the Borsuk IFV in a new, internationalized configuration is an important step in the development of PGZ’s export offering.”

The Borsuk, meaning “Badger” in Polish, is a 28-ton vehicle designed as a modern replacement for the aging BWP-1 amphibious infantry fighting vehicles that have been in service since the 1960s. Measuring 8 meters in length, the vehicle accommodates a three-man crew and can transport up to six troops, enhancing its operational capabilities.

Having entered service with the Polish mechanized units in 2025, the Borsuk initially utilized the ZSSW-30 turret system, which incorporates a Bushmaster II autocannon, twin missile launchers, and smoke grenade capabilities. The vehicle is powered by an MTU 8V199 TE20 turbo diesel engine, providing a robust output of 720 horsepower. This allows for a top speed of 65 kilometers (40 miles) per hour on land and 8 kilometers (5 miles) per hour in water, with an impressive operational range of 550 kilometers (342 miles).

The recent exhibit serves to underscore Poland’s strategic drive to fortify its defense capabilities while also enhancing its position in the global defense export market. With a focus on collaboration and flexibility, PGZ aims to respond to the evolving needs of international military clients, positioning the Borsuk as a modern solution in today’s defense landscape.
