In a solemn ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu awarded the esteemed Shaurya Chakra to Subedar Vikas Tomar of the 1 Para Special Forces, recognizing his exceptional bravery and leadership during a high-risk counter-terrorism operation in the Dhagri Forest on September 11, 2024.

Over the course of 120 hours, Subedar Tomar led his team through intense combat in extremely hostile conditions. His tactical acumen and unwavering courage were evident as he effectively neutralized terrorist threats while ensuring the safety of his personnel. In the face of heavy enemy fire, he evacuated injured team members, successfully thwarting a significant terror plot. This impressive display of valor embodies the highest traditions of sacrifice, as noted in the official citation.

The Shaurya Chakra, instituted in 1952 and renamed in 1967, is India’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award, bestowed upon both military and civilian personnel for acts of bravery outside direct combat with the enemy.

Subedar Tomar is a member of the elite 1 Para Special Forces unit of the Indian Army, which is renowned for its specialized expertise in counter-insurgency, anti-terror operations, and high-risk reconnaissance missions.
