On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, a significant event in India’s military history, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the Param Vir Dirgha at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This new gallery is dedicated to celebrating India’s highest military heroes, further emphasizing the importance of valor and bravery in the nation’s heritage.

The Param Vir Dirgha prominently features portraits of all 21 recipients of the Param Vir Chakra, the country’s highest military decoration awarded for acts of extraordinary courage and self-sacrifice during conflicts. This gallery serves not only as a tribute to these brave soldiers but also aims to educate visitors about their remarkable feats and the heroic spirit they embodied while defending the nation. It stands as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who laid down their lives in service to the motherland.

In a notable shift from the past, the corridors of the gallery, which previously displayed portraits of British Aide-de-Camps, now celebrate the legacy of Indian national heroes. This change is both symbolic and significant, marking a departure from colonial influences while honoring the rich culture, heritage, and traditions that define India.

The establishment of the Param Vir Dirgha reinforces the imperative to remember and celebrate acts of unparalleled bravery. The gallery ensures that the legacy of these heroic individuals continues to inspire future generations, reminding them of the indomitable spirit and moral fortitude that has characterized India’s defense forces throughout history.
