Punjab Police’s Amritsar Rural unit has carried out a coordinated crackdown that targeted multiple suspected arms and narcotics supply lines, leading to the arrest of seven people and the seizure of 14 pistols along with 20.130 kilograms of heroin. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the action was taken on Tuesday and described it as part of a wider effort against organised smuggling networks.
Among those arrested is a serving Army soldier on leave, Yudhvir Singh (22), a resident of Ranike village. The other accused have been identified as Uday (19) and Patras (19), both from Mastgarh in Tarn Taran district; Sajan Singh (19) and Sahilpreet (20), both from Naraingarh; Jarmanjot Singh (20) of Sialka village; and Sahibnoor Singh (21) of Jujhar Singh Nagar in Batala.
According to the police, preliminary findings suggest that the accused were allegedly connected to a foreign-based handler who arranged illegal arms consignments for onward distribution through an organised network. Officials said the investigation is still underway to trace the complete chain of supply and identify both backward and forward linkages. Police have said the recovered weapons and heroin were meant for criminal elements.
Four separate police actions
Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal shared details of the four operations carried out by different police teams.
In the first operation, officers from Gharinda police station acted on specific intelligence and intercepted Uday and Patras while they were travelling towards Khemkaran. Police said the duo had allegedly just recovered a drone-dropped consignment containing 10 pistols, including one 9mm pistol and nine .30-bore pistols. Preliminary investigation also indicated that they had previously retrieved and supplied at least 20-25 consignments of weapons.
In the second operation, a joint team of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Amritsar Rural, and the Station House Officer of Gharinda apprehended Yudhvir Singh, who was home on leave. Police recovered one .30-bore pistol from him. Bhullar said Yudhvir Singh had earlier been arrested in an Arms Act case, and that a detailed report about his alleged role in cross-border smuggling is being sent to senior Army authorities.

In the third operation, Gharinda police teams stopped Sajan Singh and Sahilpreet based on reliable inputs and recovered 20.130 kg of heroin from their possession. In the fourth operation, a joint team led by the in-charge of the Amritsar Rural Special Cell and the Station House Officer of Kathu Nangal arrested Jarmanjot Singh and Sahibnoor Singh and recovered two pistols.
FIRs registered
Police said four separate FIRs have been registered in connection with the case. FIR Nos. 458 and 459, dated October 26, 2026, were registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Gharinda police station. FIR No. 460, dated October 27, 2026, was filed under Section 21 of the NDPS Act at Gharinda police station. FIR No. 191, dated October 23, 2026, was registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Kathu Nangal police station.
The police said the crackdown is part of the continuing effort to strengthen law and order in Punjab and disrupt cross-border smuggling routes that use drone drops and local distribution networks. Officials added that the investigation is ongoing to identify all associates linked to the modules.
