Raytheon Secures $322.5 Million Contract for TOW Anti-Armor Missiles for US Army

Raytheon has secured a substantial contract valued at $322.5 million to provide the US Army with additional TOW (Tube-launched, Optically-tracked, Wireless-guided) anti-armor missiles. This latest agreement follows previous contracts made in August 2023 and October 2024, bringing the total value of similar deals to nearly $1 billion.

While the Pentagon’s announcement did not disclose the exact quantity of TOW missiles to be supplied under the new contract, it confirmed that the delivery is scheduled to be completed by September 2026. Raytheon will carry out the production of these missiles at its facility in Arizona, contributing significantly to the defense capabilities of the US Army.

The TOW missile is recognized for its precision and effectiveness in anti-armor operations, making it a trusted weapon system for various military engagements. It has been designed for heavy assault and is also effective against fortified positions and amphibious landings. The missile is compatible with several platforms, including the Stryker and Bradley armored vehicles, as well as the ITAS (Improved Target Acquisition System) high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle.

One of the key features of the TOW missile is its advanced telescopic sight, which allows operators to identify and accurately lock onto targets, ensuring a high likelihood of a successful strike. The missile employs a tandem warhead system that enhances its lethality. This dual-stage warhead first neutralizes a target’s reactive armor, followed by the penetration of the main armor, significantly increasing the chances of incapacitating the target.

With a combat range of up to 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles), the TOW missile system continues to be an essential component of the arsenals of over 40 armed forces worldwide. Its reliability and versatility have solidified its status as a formidable weapon in various military scenarios, contributing to the ongoing modernization and effectiveness of military operations globally.
