The swearing-in ceremony was held at Ramlila Maidan, where Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena administered her oath of office. With this, Delhi gets its fourth woman Chief Minister, following in the footsteps of BJP’s Sushma Swaraj, Congress’ Sheila Dikshit, and AAP’s Atishi. Gupta also becomes the fourth BJP Chief Minister of Delhi after Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj.

- Gupta, 50, won the Shalimar Bagh seat in the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections by garnering more than 29,000 votes against her Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rival Bandana Kumari.
- “Kaam hi Pehchaan” (my work is my identity), is a tagline that she uses on her website for her campaigns. Her Council of Ministers comprising Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Singh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra and Ravinder Indraj, also took oath.
- Rekha Gupta was born on July 19, 1974, into a Hindu-Vaishya family in Julana, Haryana. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Daulat Ram College, affiliated with Delhi University, where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. Demonstrating a commitment to further education, she completed her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut in 2022.
Political Career Of Rekha Gupta
- Gupta’s political journey began during her time at Delhi University. In 1996, she was elected President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), a role she held until 1997. Her leadership skills and dedication to student issues laid a strong foundation for her future in politics.
- In 2007, Gupta was elected as a councillor from North Pitampura (Ward 54) and was re-elected in 2012. She also served as the Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), where she focused on urban development and public welfare. Within the BJP, she has held significant positions, including National Vice President of the BJP Mahila Morcha and General Secretary of the party’s Delhi state unit.
- In the 2025 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, Gupta contested from the Shalimar Bagh constituency. She secured a decisive victory with a margin of 29,595 votes, defeating Aam Aadmi Party’s Bandana Kumari.
- This win contributed to the BJP’s overall success, as the party won 48 out of 70 seats, marking its return to power in Delhi after 27 years. As per her election affidavit, Rekha Gupta has total assets worth of Rs.5.2 crore and liabilities of Rs.1.46 crore. Her financial standing reflects her strong position as a public servant with substantial personal wealth.
- The ceremony at the historic Ramlila Maidan was attended by PM Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan, as well as Chief Ministers Bhajan Lal Sharma (Rajasthan), Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra), Conrad Sangma (Meghalaya), Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh) and Pramod Sawant (Goa).
