A tragic incident in Dehradun occurred when Brigadier (Retd) Mukesh Kumar Joshi, 74, was killed by a stray bullet during his morning walk. The shooting was linked to a violent clash between two groups escalating from a dispute at a local nightclub.
The conflict erupted late at night at Zen-G nightclub, sparked by an argument over a bill. Tensions escalated further when one group allegedly vandalized the other party’s vehicle. As the situation deteriorated, the confrontation spilled onto the streets in the early morning hours. Members of the two groups engaged in a dangerous road chase, with vehicles including a Scorpio N and a Fortuner. During this pursuit, gunfire broke out.
In the midst of this gunfight, Brigadier Joshi was walking with friends when he was struck by a stray bullet. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Responding swiftly to the incident, Uttarakhand Police initiated an investigation and made significant arrests within 24 hours. Four individuals, including Aditya Chaudhary and nightclub owner Sandeep Kumar, were apprehended, while several other suspects remain at large. Authorities also confiscated two country-made pistols, cartridges, and the vehicles used during the altercation. In light of the violence and for operating beyond permitted hours, the nightclub was subsequently sealed.
Further investigations revealed that both groups were armed and engaged in reciprocal firing. Initial reports suggesting a road rage incident were found to be misleading, as many accused individuals are students from Delhi and Bihar studying in Dehradun.
This incident underscores a troubling escalation from a minor dispute to a fatal confrontation, leading to an innocent life lost. Law enforcement continues to pursue those still at large and aims to take strict action against all involved in this tragic event.
