Russia Resumes Strikes on Kyiv Amid Truce Despite Freezing Conditions

Russian drone and missile strikes across Ukraine have resulted in the tragic loss of six lives and injuries to dozens more, as reported by local authorities on Saturday.

Mykola Kalashnyk, the head of the Kyiv regional military administration, confirmed that five fatalities occurred, and among the wounded, four individuals remain in critical condition. The attacks primarily targeted civilian areas, impacting residential buildings, educational institutions, businesses, and vital infrastructure within the region. Kalashnyk revealed that around 30 sites had sustained damage from these strikes.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that rescue and cleanup efforts were ongoing in several areas, including Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Mykolaiv. He emphasized that while the primary objective of the Russian attacks appeared to be the energy infrastructure in the Kyiv region, there were also unfortunate direct impacts on residential structures, schools, and local businesses.

The Ukrainian Air Force disclosed that Russia had deployed a total of 430 drones and 68 missiles, with air defense systems successfully intercepting 402 of the drones and all 68 missiles.

In a separate incident later in the afternoon, a Russian strike on a residential area in the Zaporizhzhia suburbs resulted in one death and left 18 others injured, including two children, according to local administration reports.

Amid these developments, peace negotiations spearheaded by the U.S., aimed at ending more than four years of conflict, have encountered setbacks due to the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. President Zelensky expressed his apprehensions on Friday regarding a temporary easing of U.S. sanctions on Russian oil, stating that it could provide Moscow with new financial resources to sustain its military efforts.

The ongoing invasion has triggered the most brutal conflict in Europe since World War II, leading to the displacement of millions and resulting in substantial casualties among both military personnel and civilians.
