Saab to Unveil Coast Control Radar at IDEX 2025 in UAE for Enhanced Maritime Security

At the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2025 taking place this week in the United Arab Emirates, Saab is set to unveil its innovative Coast Control Radar system. This sophisticated software-defined radar is crafted to enhance the security of territorial waterways and maritime traffic, which is essential for maintaining national sovereignty and supporting the global economy.

The Coast Control Radar boasts a compact and modular design, facilitating seamless integration into various infrastructures, including buildings, towers, and waterway bridges. Its architecture is geared toward ease of maintenance, as it allows for routine software updates to keep the system at the forefront of technology.

One of the standout features of the Coast Control Radar is its impressive 365-degree coverage capability, enabling it to track not only larger ships but also smaller vessels that are often difficult to detect. This advancement is crucial for enhancing maritime safety and monitoring busy waterways.

Developed at Saab’s research and development center located in Tawazun Industrial Park, Abu Dhabi, the radar employs a non-rotating phased-array design. This feature enhances its ability to detect small and rapidly moving objects over extended ranges, even in harsh environmental conditions.

Helene Bittmann, Saab’s Managing Director in the UAE, expressed pride in the launch of this product. “As a world leader in radars, we’re pleased to announce the launch of our Coast Control Radar,” she said. Bittmann highlighted the radar’s significance for the Middle East, emphasizing the region’s critical need for secure and reliable maritime transit.

She further noted that the Coast Control Radar provides nations with a highly effective means for monitoring vital economic lifelines while simultaneously enhancing the safety and security of maritime operations. This innovation marks a significant step forward in maritime defense technology, underscoring Saab’s commitment to developing solutions that address regional security challenges.
