The Islamic State (ISIS) terror group’s senior leader, who was in charge of preparing attacks in Europe, was assassinated by a drone strike conducted by the United States, according to a report released on Tuesday by the American military. Northwest Syria was the location of the strike.

Senior ISIS Leader Killed by US Drone Attack in Syria

The American military identified the victim of the incident on Monday as Khalid Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri. According to the military statement, his death will temporarily impair the organization’s capacity to organize external operations. A drone attack in the village of Kefteen, which is under the control of the opposition, claimed the life of one person on Monday, according to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The wounded guy was evacuated from the scene of the attack, according to the opposition Syrian Civil Defense, also known as the White Helmets, but he eventually passed away from his injuries.

Al Qaeda and ISIS in Syria

The attack was the latest in a series of attacks in northwest Syria against al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists and senior Islamic State group members in recent years. In recent years, the vast majority of those killed by US airstrikes in the rebel-held province of Idlib were members of al Qaeda’s Horas al-Din branch, whose name translates to “guardians of religion” in Arabic. The group is made up of al Qaeda fighters who defected from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Idlib province’s most powerful insurgent organization.

Local activists identified two individuals killed by a drone strike as Horas al-Din members in February. The Observatory later revealed that one of the two fatalities was a prominent member of the Islamic State who was defeated in Syria in March 2019.
