Shri Vishvajit Sahay Assumes Charge as Controller General of Defence Accounts

Shri Vishvajit Sahay, a seasoned officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) from the 1990 batch, has officially taken on the role of Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA). With an extensive career spanning over three decades, Shri Sahay is poised to bring a significant depth of experience in defence finance, budgeting, and public administration to this critical leadership position in the Defence Accounts Department.

Born into an academic environment, Shri Sahay is an alumnus of the prestigious St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. Throughout his career within the Government of India, he has held several prominent positions that underscore his expertise in complex fiscal management. His previous roles include serving as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Department of Science and Technology, Joint Secretary in the Department of Heavy Industry, and Finance Manager in the Acquisition Wing of the Ministry of Defence. These positions have allowed him to deeply engage in policy formulation and fiscal oversight, honing his skills in financial governance.

In the realm of the Defence Accounts Department, Shri Sahay has effectively contributed in key roles, including Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pensions) in Prayagraj, Joint CGDA, and Special CGDA. His involvement in these significant roles has not only showcased his adeptness at managing extensive financial systems but has also been pivotal in driving reforms aimed at modernizing defence accounting procedures and pension administration, ultimately enhancing transparency and accountability.

Shri Sahay’s professional journey also includes international exposure, having represented India at esteemed global training platforms such as Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and the George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies in Germany. This exposure has not only broadened his perspective on defence policies but also provided him with insights into institutional reform and financial governance on a global scale.

In his new capacity as CGDA, Shri Sahay is anticipated to lead the Defence Accounts Organisation towards enhanced efficiency and digital transformation.
