PIQ form is very important because it has crucial information about the candidates that are used by the Interviewer and the psychologist to form an overall image of the candidate. Most of the personal interview questions in the SSB interview are related to what you have written in your PIQ form. One must keep full attention while filling this form, write legible and to the point, do not overwrite and exaggerate personal information.
Here, we will discuss some points that will cover the significance of the income, sports and position of responsibilities of the candidates as they include a wide variety of questions in the Interview testing.
• The 8th column of PIQ form consists of the candidate’s personal physical details such as height, weight and age. It helps the interviewer and the psychologist to deduce and make a mental image of the candidate that is correlating with his/her actions in situational testing and otherwise. For example, you can state that you can handle or confront one or two goons if you possess the necessary physical build-up. Again, your courage quotient will be checked but this will credibility as a physically weaker candidate is less likely to confront goons in a normal routine situation.
• The 9th column asks if the candidate has an occupation and if yes, then what the income is. This question holds a good value as multiple questions can branch out from it. If the candidate is doing a job along with his studies such as giving tuitions or any other part-time job than the assessor can judge the sense of responsibility of the candidate along with many other OLQs.
• Usually, it is expected from the adult candidates to bear their own expenses and if they are doing it then it leads too many other questions regarding the type of work they are doing and their knowledge in it, income generated, spending pattern, money management, management of time in job and studies etc.
• Careful answers should be given while dealing with such questions as a lot of qualities and personal priorities are being judged by the candidate’s responses such as organising ability, sense of responsibility etc. If you are graduated, then your job profile tells a lot about the work you do and also how you project it. They expect you to be good at it whatever you are doing.
• The pattern of your expenses tells about your priorities and dealing with responsibilities. They also try to know if you balanced well between your studies and the job or prioritise job over the studies as the studies being your primary responsibility. Many such other questions arise out of this information filled by you and you must be certain while filling them.
• NCC changes cadets’ common college life to an adventurous and thrilling journey of 3 years, teaching them to push limits at every turn of life and to set priorities straight. The cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. The officers and cadets have no liability for active military service once they complete their course. It is a better start for the candidates who realized their dreams of joining the Indian defence after their schooling. Also, given the vast benefits, opportunities and reservation, NCC India is the largest volunteer uniformed youth organisation in the world.
• NCC is not just any other organization that trains youth for the defence of the country, although it was started with that aim. But today, it has come a long way from then and the aim of NCC is developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose.
• Though there are many tangible and intangible benefits of joining NCC as such the expectations are also raised from the candidate as he already got the exposure that many didn’t have and it would be unfair to judge both on the same bar. Similarly, candidates from military schools and Sainik schools etc. have to go beyond extra to prove their qualities and the bar is raised for them. Being in NCC tells that you have lived a life full of discipline and that’s why the bar is raised for you based on your profile alone. The wing of NCC, duration of the training, certificate obtained and the division are the details that give a good amount of insights about a candidate’s NCC life.
• The space in column number 11 pertains to the participation in games and sports by the candidate. While studying a student comes across many sports and games in his/her school or college life. It is asked if the candidate has taken participation in them and if yes, then at what level, for which duration and if he achieved something outstanding at that time. We all know that emphasis on sports can be put many times and even then it wouldn’t be sufficient as SSB looks for certain OLQs and these OLQs usually tend to find their place in people who participate and play sports and specifically group sports.
• The group sports develops a lot of factors such as leadership, group dynamics, team efforts, organizing ability, sense of responsibility, withholding and playing under pressure with a calm mind, tactical playing and nurturing one’s personality etc. The visible benefit is good physical fitness but it comes naturally when a candidate is active and OLQs develop automatically. Physical fitness is an important selection criterion in the SSB and being involved in sports gives you a chance to do so. When you play a sport on a more professional level then it is deduced that you have concentration, ability and dedication to prove yourself in any activity that you will lay your hand in.
• But, remember that even if you don’t have any sports background even then your chances stand and you can get recommended as countless have been. Being active in sports just instils some OLQs in a candidate but that’s no guarantee that he is an efficient leader. People who haven’t played sports should realize and come up with the honest reason for not participating or participating less as sports being a part of the curriculum and if you haven’t participated then you are required to give a rationale reason behind that.
• You need to realize again that in no way other candidate’s achievement outdid your chance of getting the recommendation as the bar is set different for all the candidates having various kinds of profile and they are evaluated according to that only.
